As I have been observing in a 1st grade classroom, I have actually seen a lot for only a few weeks! I am so excited to share with you what I have learned. In this first grade classroom, there are about 2 students that have ADHD (convienent for me- we just learned about this) It was great to see how the teacher helped these students pay attention. She was constantly walking over near him to make sure he was doing the work, and helped him when needed. It was also great to see him in a social situation- his peers would interact with him in fun ways.
I have also seen many different aids and teachers come in and take certain students to either the resource room or reading recovery. The IDEA relates to this situation because the students are really only gone for about 30 minutes. They get the help they need and can quickly return to their classroom and peers to catch up on what they missed.
One thing I have noticed is a little Asain student. Their family recently moved from China and she knows English fairly well. But, to help her even more the school has a computer program that she can go on for about 30 minutes. The program is fun and interactive. I am excited to continue my observations and relating them to what we are learning!
